This is a simple tool for estimating income tax in fairly simple cases under the Australian tax rules. Although the Australian Taxation Office website has a calculator, it is very slow to use for simple cases, forcing you to answer a multitude of questions that are needed for a precise estimate, especially in more complex cases, but which are overkill if you need quick and rapid estimates.
The ATO site is also limited in terms of the income tax years that are available, and doesn’t include useful metrics such a marginal rate of tax and equivalent amount per week etc.
It features all income tax rates from 1976 to present.
It handles these situations:
- Taxable income from non-business sources
- Medicare rebate, including loadings where there is no health insurance.
- Low Income Tax Offset
- Flood Levy
- Other Credits
